Scratch that itch

New Order disbanded, you had kids, the love handles arrived, and suddenly, the inevitable has happened: You're too old to learn how to deejay. Or so you think. Thanks to the all-ages summer sessions at the Scratch DJ Academy, you can live the dream. Between July 12 and 16, Scratch's all-star faculty of DJs will teach an intensive version of its regular monthlong curriculum, which covers basic mixing and scratching.

The $300 price tag includes access to complete turntable setups, records and unlimited practice time. Kids six and up are welcome, with or without their parents. Or grandparents. "We recently taught a class of 70-year-olds," says Dave Perpich, Scratch's vice president of operations. "Lots of people have come through with no experience, and now they're spinning in clubs." Imagine the possibilities: You, the kid and Gramps, all working the 'tables together. This could be bigger than the Partridge Family!ÔGrace Carter
