Little Buddy Biscuit Company

Most leisurely strolls down Park Slope’s Fifth Avenue tend to end around 9th Street, where the cafés and boutiques give way to grungy convenience stores and bars. But at last there’s a reason to keep ambling south. Tucked between 17th and 18th Streets is Little Buddy Biscuit Company, a cheery place to pick up treats or have a light lunch (be aware that there’s seating but no bathroom). Owned by Pete Solomita and named after a diminutive for his six-year-old son, Jack, Little Buddy stocks savory American biscuits (try the scallion, cream cheese and poppy-seed version), a large selection of British “biscuits” (a.k.a. cookies) and scores of other house-made goodies. Baked cheddar mac and cheese, one of Jack’s favorites, is deliciously moist thanks to a touch of cottage cheese. Layer cakes, cupcakes and cookies come in regular and mini sizes, and on weekdays Solomita often cuts his jumbo chocolate brownies into smaller pieces as an affordable “after-school” special. But if you opt for the full-size confection, he won’t judge you.—Julia Israel
