Four-hour intensive child-adult classes are offered at this 4,000-square-foot sewing studio three to six times a year; you could end up making place mats, pillow cases or pajamas together. Ages 8 and up.

Knitty City
Knitters of all levels gather for this spot’s after-school program, where beginners learn the basics and more-advanced kids delve into crocheting and felting. The studio requires a minimum of four classes (you choose the days) so students can finish such creations as wristbands and hats. 208 W 79th St between Amsterdam Ave and Broadway (212-787-5896, knittycity.com). Kids Club Grades 2 to 5: Mon,Wed 3:30–4:30pm. $25 per class. Kids Club Grades 6 and up: Mon, Wed 4:30–6pm. $35 per class. Both charge a $10 material fee.

Lemon Sky
The Williamsburg workshop gives mini crafters a choice of Fiber Arts & Crafts, in which they’ll use leather and other materials to craft belts and vests, or Knitting and Crochet, teaching the basic skills needed to create a bag or doll. Free one-hour trial classes let kids see if it’s up their alley. 39 Ainslie St between Keap and Rodney Sts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-599-9749, lemonskyny.com). Fabric Arts & Crafts: Sun 9:30–10:30am, 10:30–11:30am. Ages 6 and up. Knitting and Crochet: Sun 10:30–11:30am. Ages 7 and up. Both $25 per class, six classes $125, ten classes $200.

Lion Brand Yarn Studio
The downtown spot’s child-adult Duet classes are designed to let kids continue the fun at home. Students under age seven learn finger knitting, while their older sibs use hooks and needles to handcraft the likes of purses and iPod cases. 34 W 15th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves (212-243-9070, lionbrandyarnstudio.com). Duet classes: $60 per hour.

Loop of the Loom
A rainbow of spools line the walls of this studio, which offers after-school classes to designers-in-training. Kids learn how to use a loom and a sewing machine; they also craft a custom piece of apparel from fabrics like cashmere, linen and silk. Students get to show off their creations in a spring fashion show, à la Project Runway. 227 E 87th St between Second and Third Aves (212-722-2686, loopoftheloom.com). Tue–Fri 4–5:30pm. $670 for 15 sessions. Ages 8 and up.

Purl SoHo
This bright-white studio offers the perfect classes for kids eager to try their hand at knitting or sewing. The project-based sewing day lets kids create a comfy “house pillow” to take home, while students of the more skill-oriented knitting sessions finish a stitch sampler. 459 Broome St between Greene and Mercer Sts (212-420-8796, purlsoho.com). Beginner Knitting: $75 for three one-hour sessions (yarn not included). Ages 8 and up. Beginner Sewing: $95 for two two-hour sessions (on the same day). Ages 11 and up.
