Eastside Westside Music Together

Appleseeds
Besides its spotless 2,500-square-foot, members-only romp room stocked with foam shapes, balls and building bricks, this enormous Chelsea hub offers classes for parents and their children up to age five. Precrawlers master tummy time and tiny sit-ups in the Developmental Movement course (eight classes $256); mobile tots can tackle ramps, tunnels and bubbles in Move, Baby, Move! (16 classes $680). Look for a second outpost opening on the Upper West Side in 2012. 10 W 25th St between Broadway and Sixth Ave (212-792-7590, appleseedsnyc.com). Winter session begins Jan 9. Sixteen classes $680–$705. Annual membership $1,120, 10 percent discount on classes.

Baby Moves NYC
This sleek play space in the heart of the West Village has creative music and movement classes just for infants. Musical Toolbox (six months and up) uses finger play, songs and silly faces to get babies cooing and giggling to their own rhythm (18 classes $625). The All 4 on the Floor session (ages 3 to 12 months) blends climbing, crawling and bubble play with musical accompaniment to get those tiny synapses firing (18 classes $575). 155 Bank St at Washington St (212-255-1685, babymovesnyc.com). Winter session begins Jan 9.

Eastside Westside Music Together
The Music Together franchise, founded in 1987, is based on the belief that every child is inherently musical. Babies take a special one-semester class for tots under six months, then graduate to playful mixed-ages sessions. Everyone is encouraged to join in: At a recent class on the Upper East Side, the first chords of “Hello Song” had both parents and kids jumping to attention. All musical styles and genres are explored, and families get CDs for home listening. Locations on the Upper East and Upper West Sides (212-496-1242, eswsmusictogether.com). Winter session begins Jan 7. Eight to ten classes $343–$489.

Kidville
You’ll meet plenty of parents in these family hubs’ newborn and infant groups. The Wee Wiggle Giggle sessions offer free play, storytime, and singing and dancing. Big Muscles for Little Babies has tots six months and up hitting the swings and clambering around foam obstacle courses. New for 2012 is the Rockin’ Railroad music class: Led by Broadway-ready performers, little passengers are engaged with instruments, puppets, stories and bubbles. Winter session begins Jan 9. Sixteen classes $285–$725. See kidville.com for locations.

Moonsoup
Parents know that keeping to a schedule is hard, so Moonsoup’s easygoing makeup policy and daily Open Play sessions are a real pull. There are three infant classes: Baby Rock and Sign (ages 2 to 11 months), Crawlers Rock and Sign (ages 5 to 15 months) and Rock Tots (ages 10 to 18 months). Rock and Sign classes incorporate American Sign Language, so your tot can learn the motions for “more,” and “milk” and “bubbles.” Locations in Manhattan and Astoria, Queens (moonsoup.net). Winter session begins Jan 2. Classes $518 per semester.

Xiao Long Center
Want your tot to get an early start on the world’s most rapidly growing language? Brooklyn's Xiao Long Center has been teaching Mandarin to local kids since 2007. Little Bun’s Playgroup (infant–3 years) and Little Bun’s Music Class (infant–4 years) are immersion sessions where kids learn through play, rhymes, stories and songs. Classes for babies and toddlers are held on Mon afternoons and Sat mornings at the Creative Arts Studio, 310 Atlantic Avenue between Smith and Hoyt Streets, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn (xiaolongcenter.com). Winter session begins Feb 4. Fifteen classes $450. Email jennifer@xiaolongcenter.com for more information.

Brainy Academy Tutoring and Enrichment Center has one of the best Mommy and Me Montessori classes in the borough. All of our classes are kept small, no more than 8 children to two teachers. Our state-of-the-art classroom is fully stocked with educational, Montessori materials. The Montessori program is great for young children, ages 3-6, because it develops their logic, cognition, motor, math, and reading skills. Children in Montessori classes pick educational toys to play with. The children do not feel like they are learning, they see it as playing. The Montessori program is seen as the best way to educate young minds right now. Children who have been in Montessori classes are shown to do better in school than their peers. Check out our Mommy and Me Montessori classes by going to our website, http://www.brainyacademyny.com, or calling us!
