Meatpacking District: Shop talk

What was the inspiration for YoyaMart?
Stephane: I wanted to create a lifestyle store where parents were able to shop with their kids and not get bored. In addition to toys, we have jewelry, books and DVDs. It’s a store for the whole family.
Do you ask Hannah for her opinion on new products?
Stephane: Of course. When we got samples of Little Yoya [a monkeylike doll by the creators of Ugly Dolls], I asked Hannah what she thought of it. She twisted its arms and legs and said, “Yes, that’s a good toy.”
Does your dad bring you home a lot of toys?
Hannah: Yes. I have to keep my toy box open because they don’t all fit. My friends at school steal my toys.
What do you think will be popular for the holidays?
Stephane: A dragon called Goon ($75) and Gloomy Bear slippers ($35) are really hot. And Little Yoya ($38) will also be huge.
And what do you want this year?
Hannah: Any Pikachu toys, Blythe dolls and Gloomy bears. I like toys that don’t look like every other toy.
