TELEVISION

Astro's turf

Forty years ago, Astro Boy was anime when anime wasn't cool. A techno Pinocchio not unlike Spielberg's A.I. creature, the robot boy's new toon blends antic superhero action with an antiquely futuristic design.
The WB, Saturdays at 8:30am.

Rabbit transit
Previewed on Arthur last December, spin-off Postcards from Buster follows the aardvark's bunny buddy around North America. Its ingenious gimmick: Buster's postcards are live-action video clips.
On PBS, later this year.

Fowl play
Preschoolers will take to Peep the chick, Chirp the robin and Quack, a self-important duck, like...well, like ducks to water. They'll also relate to the birds' bemusement over such mysteries as the changing seasons. Rendered in simple shapes designed to catch young eyes, the three feathered friends gently introduce basic science concepts on Peep and the Big Wide World. Joan Cusack, one of our favorite odd ducks, narrates the sweet-natured show.
Starts in the spring on the Learning Channel and Discovery Kids, weekday mornings. Check local listings.—Rick Schindler

Send in the clones
Introduced on Cartoon Network last November, Star Wars: Clone Wars debuts ten new episodes on consecutive weeknights starting March 26 at 8pm. A cartoon coda to the live-action Star Wars: Episode II—Attack of the Clones, this "microseries" may help kids (and kids-at-heart) quell their cravings for Episode III until George Lucas gets around to finishing it. Dexter's Laboratory mastermind Genndy Tartakovsky crafted the elegant three-minute adventures.—Rick Schindler
