Karaoke video games for kids
These video games allow kids to belt out tunes right in their living room.

Disney Sing It: Family Hits
Little ones provide the soundtrack to their favorite Disney flicks by following along with the onscreen lyrics. Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Tiana in The Princess and the Frog, gives kids singing tips in the Vocal Coach feature. Rated E. PlayStation 3, Wii. $30.
Glee: Karaoke Revolution
Loyal “Gleeks” choose from 30 Glee hits, including “Defying Gravity,” “Gold Digger” and “Somebody to Love,” and perform them as their favorite characters. Wanna-be actors can also re-create scenes from the show. Rated E10+. Wii. $50.
Michael Jackson: The Experience
Kids sing along to the King of Pop’s iconic hits. Most tracks combine singing and dancing, so young players can try their hand (and feet) at the moonwalk, too. Rated E10+. Kinect for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii. $50.
Karaoke Revolution
Tracking the evolution of contestants’ styles is a big part of the Idol experience. Here, players choose every element of their avatar’s look (body type, hairstyle, clothing and accessories); they can also design their own Idol-like performance venue. The 50-song playlist includes artists your kids will recognize from Z100, like Lady Gaga and Jason Mraz, plus a family-friendly bonus: four tracks from the Jackson 5. Rated T. Konami; Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3. $50.
Disney Sing It: Pop Hits
For kids who swoon for Jesse McCartney but have never heard of Paul, this collection comes endorsed by the House of Mouse. After crooning to tunes by Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift and Vanessa Hudgens, players can get vocal lessons from Tiffany Thornton (of Disney series Sonny with a Chance) to improve their breathing, pitch, riffing and harmonizing skills. They can also listen to recordings of their own voices and, taking a cue from Simon Cowell, critique one another. Rated E. Disney Interactive Studios; Nintendo Wii, PS3, PS2. $50.
Lips: Number One Hits
There’s a reason why Anoop Desai had no shot at winning last year’s competition: The soulful tenor was painfully uncoordinated. But you can make sure your kids don’t suffer the same fate—whether on TV or at a school dance. This game’s cordless mike also functions as a percussive instrument and dance accessory, with players earning better reviews for gesturing, swaying and posing in time with the music. The 40 decade-spanning chart-toppers include Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” and Rihanna’s “Disturbia.” Rated T. Microsoft Game Studios; Xbox 360. $60.
