Kids’ Poetry Workshops in New York City

Poem in Your Pocket at Bryant Park

FREE Bryant Park
Festivities at the annual Poem in Your Pocket Day celebration include music, book giveaways and lots of proud kids eager to share their rhymes. The park also has a well-stocked outdoor reading room that loans books and magazines on the honor system. Apr 14 11am–2pm. Sixth Ave between 40th and 42nd Sts (212-768-4242, bryantpark.org). All ages.

Pencil Heads
The One Silly Saturday workshop mixes rhyming and ode-inducing writing exercises with games to let kids’ imaginations roll onto the page. Apr 16 1–3pm. 132 E 78th St at Lexington Ave (646-861-2273, pencilheads.com). $80. Ages 8 to 18.

FREE Poets House
Illustrator and author James Stevenson reads works with corn in the title. Afterward, explore the children’s room in this poetry library—it’s stocked with kid-friendly works, old typewriters and great views of Teardrop Park. Apr 16 at 11am. 10 River Terr at Murray St (212-431-7920, poetshouse.org). Ages 4 to 10.

FREE Writopia Lab
Ready, Set, Write! is a poetry workshop and open mike for tweens and teens. Participants create works, get feedback from published poets and then read their masterpieces to the crowd.
