Wolf it Down

One night, author Neil Gaiman’s (Stardust) daughter Maddy dreamt that there were wolves in the walls of their house, and from there, The Wolves in the Walls was born. The story follows Lucy, a young girl convinced that she can hear howling and scratching canines behind the wallpaper of her house. Unfortunately, her family doesn’t believe her, that is, until the wolves come out of the walls. If you haven’t had a chance to read this slightly frightening story to your kid, you should, and then go see the stage version that has recently made its way to the New Vic. A collaboration between the National Theatre of Scotland and the Improbably Theatre Company—whose production of Shockheaded Peter, which ran at the New Vic two years ago, received rave reviews—the show features some very cool puppetry, including the super-scary canines who come out of the wall. If your kid’s got the gumption to face them, head to the New Vic this weekend. Ages 7 and up.
