Valentines en Français

Valentine's Day Crafts

French children’s apparel brand Jacadi is partnering up with the French Institute: Alliance Française for a very special Valentine's Day event. Expect French storytelling, singing and, of course, Valentine heart making, as well as a 10 percent savings on all purchases made during the workshop. Families create ceramic masterpieces in celebration of the West Side YMCA’s I Love the Y Weekend. Pottery teacher Mary Marino will be on hand to assist with painting and glittering. Sat Feb 11 at 10am, 11:15am. West Side YMCA. $10 per parent-child pair.

Just 34 minutes long, this classic French film from 1956 charts the adventures of a young boy and a red balloon as the two wander the streets of Paris. After the screening, children will make their own poetic floating valentines: holiday-themed mobiles inspired by both the flick and the Alexander Calder artwork in the Poets House lobby. Join El Taller Latino Americano, ¡Acopladitos! and Little Masters for a Valentine's Party, complete with awesome art activities and live music (all in Spanish, of course). Over the course of the morning, kids will create and decorate heart-shaped maracas, which they'll later use during a live musical performance by Brooklyn's own ¡Acopladitos!. Scott Campbell’s Zombie in Love
Even zombies need a bit of affection. Gather at the Strand just a few days before Valentine’s Day to hear Scott Campbell read from Zombie in Love, the tale of a monster named Mortimer who’s having a tough time finding a companion. Valentine’s Day comes in the form of spectacular aerial and circus acts this year, as the Espana-Streb Trapeze Academy takes the stage for a two-night benefit affair. Clifford’s Valentine’s Day

Family Art Project: Hearts and Flowers
