We New Yorkers know that December in the city can be festive and fun, a time to celebrate with friends and family. Happily for the NYC tourism industry, a large portion of the rest of the country agrees, and joins us for the holidays. As the tourist crowds tend to stick to a few key areas, they're relatively easy to avoid—unless, of course, your visiting relatives are among them. Because, guess what? Aunt Tillie really wants to see the tree at Rockefeller Center. Little Tommy must stomp on the giant floor piano at FAO Schwarz. And what trip to our great town would be complete without a stop at the South Street Seaport? Who best to accompany them? You! We feel your pain. To ease it just a bit, we've come up with a list of anti-tourist activities for families conveniently located near the major hot spots.

A trip down Fifth Avenue

Midtown madness

A day at the museums

Off to Downtown

Borough hunting
