Mike's Christmas Tree Farm
323 Weeks Ave, Manorville (631-874-3551, mikestreefarm.com). Daily 8am–4:30pm through Dec 24. Trees $10–$15 per foot.
Mike's, on Long Island, offers tree wrapping and saws, as well as so-fresh-you-can-smell-them wreaths for purchase and holiday tunes to enliven your Christmas spirit. Families can cut their own white, Norway or Serbian spruces; Fraser, balsam and Douglas firs are on offer as well.

Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm
1335 White Hill Rd, Yorktown Heights (914-245-5111, wilkensfarm.com). Daily 10am–4pm through Dec 18. Trees $80–$165.
Ride the wagon out to the plantation and you can do the dirty work of choosing and chopping down your own Douglas fir at this Westchester County farm, about 45 minutes from the George Washington Bridge. If you're no Paul Bunyan, you can get one of the strapping staff members to do it for you, or even pick a precut Fraser fir. (Farmhands will also help tie your tree to your car.) Warm up with a free cup of hot cider, and sample pies, strudels, preserves and apple-cider doughnuts at the farm's two markets.

Visit christmastreesny.org for additional New York State farms.
