Join Time Out Kids on Saturday, October 15, from 11am to 2pm, for our fourth annual Fall Kids Fest, presented with the folks from the Madison Square Park Conservancy in the bucolic green space they tend (between Fifth and Madison Aves from 23rd St to 26th St). Rain or shine, our seasonal fete features a host of free activities at stations throughout the park that represent each section of the magazine. Also, a first: This year we'll be hosting the CLIF Kid Backyard Game of the Year Playoffs where kids can play outdoor games invented by their peers (Calvinball, anyone?). See the schedule below for the scoop on this edition!
HALLOWEEN
It's time to celebrate Halloween! Come dressed in your favorite outfit and march in not one but two costume parades led by a clown from the Big Apple Circus (12pm at the Music Stage, 1:30pm at the Reflecting Pool). Then choose a pumpkin from our patch and decorate it to take home. Kids can also get their faces painted with a cute or creepy holiday design, and decorate a personalized trick-or-treat bag for toting their Halloween goodies around.
EAT
Munch on healthy treats from Clif Bar, as well as fresh apples from Hurds Family Farm, pretzels, cotton candy, Pirate's Booty and something sweet from The Treats Truck.
SHOPPING
Visit the Shopping Tent to trade in your tyke's gently used Halloween costume for something "new" at our Halloween costume swap. Bring at least one clean, intact costume, labeled by size, to participate.
ART & MUSEUMS
Personalize your own trick-or-treat bag with the Madison Square Park Conservancy, make mandalas with the Rubin Museum of Art, construct a mask with The Little Orchestra, check out the Build It! Break It! Fix it! station courtesy of Apple Seeds and play with hands-on activities sponsored by the Museum of Mathematics.
BOOKS
Hang out in the Books Tent for a reading of One Spooky Night and Tucker's Spooky Halloween (11:45am, 1pm).
FILM
Celebrate the upcoming release of The Muppets (in theaters Nov 23) in the Movies Tent with games, activity sheets, a photo stand and a chance to win free passes to a screening.
MUSIC
Rock out with local up-and-comers Princess Katie and Racer Steve (1:30pm), plus Apple Seeds' group songs for seeds plays every hour beginning at 11am.
STAGE
Watch a performance by the cast of Traces (11:30am) and Voca People (12:30pm).
PLAY TIME
Run around in the CLIF Kid Backyard Game of the Year Playoffs (11am) where kids get to play outdoor games invented by other children, then stick around for the CLIF Kid Backyard Game of the Year Award Ceremony (12:40pm).
