New play space opens in Washington Heights

wigglesLongtime Washington Heights resident and mom to three boys ages 16, 14 and 2, Stacy King often thought about opening a play space in her area. "When I had my last child, I didn't want to go back to work," she recalls. "I felt like our neighborhood deserved to have what every other neighborhood in Manhattan has: a clean, safe play space and enrichment program that has the feel of a community center. So I decided to make my dream a reality." Four weeks ago, King opened Wiggles and Giggles Playhouse. A former art gallery with gorgeous Hudson River views, the space is open and bright, and full of amenities for kids five and under. Tots can "cook" in a faux kitchen, play conductor at a train table and monkey around in a soft area filled with climbing equipment. There's also a small retail corner stocked with books and Melissa & Doug toys. Like other NYC play spaces, Wiggles and Giggles also hosts classes. While the brood practices offerings such as ballet or music, parents can work up a sweat in yoga or Zumba, a Latin dance-fitness session. Welcome to the neighborhood! Wiggles and Giggles Playhouse, 875 W 181st St at Riverside Dr (212-543-2393, wigglesgigglesplayhouse.com). Subway: A to 181st St. Visit website for schedule.
